Roots & Shoots Tbilisi

Roots and Shoots is an international organization founded in 1991 by Dr. Jane Goodall. It is a youth service program created to promote the understanding of all cultures and beliefs as well as to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place. QSI Tbilisi is part of this global community.

This program is fully student-driven. Parallel to this, there is a Mentor Team consisting of our School Counselor, three teachers, one parent, and two students. Within this project students from our school create campaigns, based on their interests, to support local NGOs, learning about concern for others through campaigns for people, animals, and the environment.

The preschool, elementary, and lower-middle school classes held multiple charity events to fundraise for their campaigns. The High School Student Leadership Team, however, coordinates weekly meetings for middle school and high school students in the Roots and Shoots Activity Club. Continuously throughout the year the members of the Activity Club organize fun events for students to promote teamwork and passion. Events include themed dances, lunch matches, programs which require students to create change by their own hands like painting classrooms in local Georgian schools, and many more events.

We work with organizations like Caucasus Environmental NGO, Dog Organization Georgia, Kera Women’s Shelter, and Angel Tree Christmas Gifts Partnership with Salvation Army Tbilisi. Clothing Others Against The Snow is another project Root and Shoots supported that donates clothes to local people in need.

This year, QSI Tbilisi Roots & Shoots implemented Earth Day, an annual bazar-type, zero-waste event, which allows students to present their campaigns. NGOs can also promote their programs and raise awareness about global and local issues during this event.

Roots & Shoots Tbilisi is a wonderful organization that helps develop leadership skills for students, help those in need, and learn concern for others through charity campaigns.
