In the 7-year-old class, we learned to spell by learning the rules for the English language. For example, students learned that past-tense words have two forms: irregular and regular forms. Irregular words change their whole spelling and regular forms add “ed” to the end of the word. Rules like these helped the students figure out challenging words by distinguishing between the different rules in the English language. At the end of the school year, the students applied their spelling skills to developing a game to share with their peers. These games showed mastery over these rules of the English language and allowed them to apply their spelling skills to a real-life activity.
