EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (Preschool)
Typical activities include: songs, music, drama, creative arts, movement, manipulatives, social games, story time, nursery rhymes, numbers, physical coordination activities calendar, and other meaningful play. Older children are also exposed to pre-reading and pre-writing activities. Pre-schoolers also go on field trips, typically once a quintile.The early childhood education program (levels 3 and 4) is taught in special centers that help students feel secure. Our program is designed to teach cognitive skills, facilitate positive social interaction, establish essential English language skills, and foster emotional well-being within each child. We use a wide variety of active, hands-on learning experiences designed to promote self-confidence based upon the natural interests of young children. Class activities are designed to create learning readiness, develop listening skills, enhance attention span, encourage spatial and perspective understanding, facilitate physical coordination, and encourage age-appropriate social interaction. Teachers frequently change activities to maintain the students' enthusiasm for school and the learning experience.
6- THROUGH 11-YEAR-OLDS (Elementary)The 5-Year-Olds Program is a dynamic, full day program that focuses on preparing students for elementary success. Challenging, but not frustrating, learning activities are designed to enable students to make rapid progress. Our focus is on cognitive and speech development, physical, social, artistic, and motor skills. We emphasize positive social interaction and monitor it throughout the day. Because students at this level become more aware of their environment, we make a concerted effort to instill in each student a sense of self-worth.
The school day consists of seven 45-50 minute periods comprising a double period of language arts and reading, one period of math, and a selection of core and special subjects such as science, cultural studies, music, art, physical education, and a foreign language.Students are typically grouped according to achievement levels in mathematics, reading and language arts. Students move from group to group throughout the day as appropriate for their achievement level. Grouping allows us to challenge students without overwhelming them. Our performance-based approach to education enables students to make rapid progress toward mastering subject materials. Each child works at his/her own pace where teachers and support staff guide students towards success.
Parallel to the regular program is the Intensive English program. It helps those students who are non-native English speakers acquire the necessary skills to succeed in the classroom.
MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SECONDARY
We offer three graduation diplomas: the Practical Diploma, the Academic Diploma, and the Academic Diploma with honors. During their middle and upper school studies, students acquire credits for each unit of study. The number of credits determines for which diploma a student qualifies. The Academic Diploma is competitive and qualifies students to enter reputable universities around the world. The Academic Diploma with Honors requires that the student engage in a year-long research project on a university level.Twelve and Thirteen Year Olds are considered middle school students, while older kids are classified as secondary. Instruction in all subject areas in conducted by highly qualified and certified teachers. The performance-based approach is continued in middle and upper school, and students are closely monitored to show progress and mastery. We also offer a formalized 'safety netting' procedure to ensure that no student falls behind (see Safety Netting below).
