Message from Director
On November 26 all school staff participated in the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum Training provided by QSI headquarters. This curriculum was presented by a trainer from Baku. Teachers, from 3 YO’s through Secondary IV, will be teaching this curriculum beginning in January.
Parents are invited to an introduction to the Keeping Safe program on January 11th from 9-10 am in the cafeteria. Mr. Martin and Mr. Teeter will be presenting an overview of the entire program. All parents are invited.
The Keeping Safe curriculum was developed in South Australia in 2008. QSI is using the Global Edition of the program, updated and put out this year. The two themes of the program for all children are: “We all have the right to be safe.” and “We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.”
There are some Non-Negotiable aspects of the program. One of them includes a group operating norm. These are agreed upon by each group or class in order for the environment to be safe and inclusive.
Respect other people’s opinions-only one person speaks at a time
Everyone listens actively
Everyone’s contribution is valued and acknowledged
Everyone has a “right to pass” or not talk about something
Use of “one step removed” (talk in the third person rather than about yourself) or “protective interrupting” (for the teacher to use if they feel a student is about to disclose sensitive information).
The topics covered are age appropriate for each level and have been carefully researched and screened over time. To find out more about the program, please see the website listed below and come to the introduction meeting on January 11th.

Preschool popcorn party with a special guest Our sweet little 3 & 4-year-olds with big hearts had a visit from the QSIT Panther this week. He brought popcorn and cheer to celebrate that the class collected 1,7 kilos of coins for charity.
10C students won the Upper Elementary Division of the Charity Tetri Drive. These students collected 2,7 kilos of coins, which brought them a sponsored pizza party. They were happy to celebrate and to see their coins going to local charity. Well done everyone ! The Tetri Drive FUNdraiser was organised by Roots & Shoots Tbilisi students. Congratulations to the local charities receiving the funds collected.
Angel Tree There is an abundance of students, parents and staff with big giving hearts at our school. The box of donated gifts for the Angel Tree children is full of beautiful presents. Thank you for donating to this Christmas charity organised by the Salvation Army and Roots and Shoots Tbilisi.
