We are looking forward to our Varsity girl’s playing basketball on March 9 and 10th right here at QSIT.  We have four other school attending the tournament and hope you will be able to attend some of the games.  Our girls are playing on Friday at 9:30, 1:15 and 3:45.  On Saturday there is one guaranteed game at 11:15. Come on over and we will have snacks for sale and fun games to watch.

This week, at the end of the third quintile we gathered some interesting statistics.  Every international school has the challenge of student absences because of home leave, unexpected family emergencies and a host of other things that come up in our lives.  However, a student missing too many days of school creates a challenge not only for the teachers but for the students.  They miss instruction, experiments, class discussions, and time to work on projects, papers or homework.  In other words, the student is always playing catch up!

We would like to share our student absences in the middle school and secondary with you.  QSIT students had 112 days of school by the last day of February.  Middle school students had missed 424 days of school during that time and secondary students had missed 536 days of school.  School trips and activities are not counted as missed days of school since the students are participating in school sponsored events.  Some teachers have had only a handful of days this year when all their students are in class on the same day.
Students and teachers work best when they can share information and work toward a common goal.  We hope you will consider this when you are planning your next holiday.
