2, 3, & 4-YEAR-OLD PROGRAM

This preschool program offers participation in a variety of play related and hands-on experiences designed to develop learning readiness, physical coordination and development, and the social skills necessary to be successful in a classroom setting. Emphasis is placed on the development of self-confidence, self-esteem, and natural excitement to learn. A full spectrum of activities is provided including music, computers, art, and play.

2-Year-Old Program

The 2-Year-Old Program is designed to expose the child to his/her first group/social experience with other 2-year-old children. The student will participate in a variety of activities that focus on the development of the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and moral aspect of the child.

Program: This program is designed to achieve the units through learning centers, small group activities, and large group activities involving hands-on activities, which are developmentally age appropriate.

Learning Centers: Learning Centers are well-defined areas in the classroom that promote independence, foster decision-making, and encourage involvement. These centers are designed to provide opportunities for active and quiet play as well as to encourage social skill development. These centers/activity areas are: house, block, art, Library, sand/water, outdoors, and puzzles (manipulatives). Other centers may be added throughout the school year based on the units and children’s interest. See the curriculum appendix for ideas for each center and materials that may be included.

Small Group Activities: Small Group activities are specific activities in each unit that are best done in a small group environment (i.e. scissor skills). This allows for more student participation. Small group activities can take place at a table, on the floor, in the gym, or outside. The teacher can be flexible in deciding what would best fit the essential units being taught.

Large Group Activities: Large Group activities can include circle time, whole class singing and dancing, story time, and lunchtime.
