For over a decade, enhancing academic rigor in the secondary program has been a primary objective at Baku International School (BIS). Along with doubling the number of secondary teaching staff during this period, we have created a culture which demands excellence from our students. We are very pleased that BIS will begin offering the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma, joining a little more than 100 international schools around the world which are part of the program. Both College Board’s external examinations and our U.S.-based accreditation through Middle States Association serve as important indicators of our high standards.
Today, almost all of our secondary students take AP courses as a part of their program of studies, with many beginning these courses as early as Secondary I. In 2018-19, 27 students, including 94% of our Secondary III and IV classes, took part in 13 different AP courses. Being held to exacting standards through both the QSI curriculum and the AP-course requirements has helped to ensure that our students are prepared for elite university educations.
Our students have received acceptance to some of the top universities in the world, including:
University College London
King’s College London
Imperial College London
University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA)
University of British Columbia (UBC)
University of Pennsylvania (UPenn)
New York University (NYU)
Ecole hôtelère de Lausanne (EHL)
