Director's Desk

During this week I am in Malta at the QSI Director Conference, where we are discussing important issues such as child protection, counseling services, and various HR topics.  It is easy to forget in Albania that TIS is a part of a much larger network of schools called Quality Schools International (QSI).  This amazing organization started years ago with a small school in Yemen and currently has 36 schools in 30 countries on five continents.  Interestingly enough, TIS is the oldest QSI school that is still in existence.  Most recently QSI has expanded to support expatriate communities in Kosovo, Germany (Munster) and Djibouti.  Of course, these schools usually start off with a handful of students, but mature schools range from 50 to 1400 students.

As a part of QSI, TIS receives important benefits that allow for us to smoothly operate from year to year.  First, QSI employs a team of professional recruiters that work with potential, qualified educators that typically come from North America.  An important part of this process is working with former employers and providing a thorough background check to ensure that new hires are both professional and safe.  Another benefit of QSI relies in the use of the international curriculum.  As a group of schools, we benefit from working together to create researched based curriculum in each academic subject.  Finally, QSI offers TIS a full range of support by providing legal counsel, accounting personnel, and general educational services.  We are indeed fortunate to be a part of such an amazing organization.

I look forward to returning this weekend and seeing everyone at the conferences next week.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

It is time once again to schedule our fall parent/teacher conferences.  This year, we are trying a new format, by which you can book your conferences directly with teachers through their TIS google calendars.  The list of teachers and links can be found here.  If you do not have a google account, then you may use your child's tismail.org account to book your appointments.  Note that only homeroom teachers, IE teachers and MS/Secondary teachers are being booked online.  Other teachers (Language teachers, specialists, and administration) will be in the cafeteria and available on a drop in basis.  That means that you can just come by the cafeteria and see your child's foreign language, PE, art, library and technology teachers either before or after your other conferences.  If you have a problem with organizing your conferences through the online booking system, then please contact erdit-cironaku@alb.qsi.org.

Times:

October 30 (3:30 - 8:00 pm)

October 31 (3:30 - 4:00 pm)

November 1 (8:00 am - 12:00)

School Picture Day

Mark your calendars, grab a comb and get ready for school picture day on October 27.  Digital copies of student photos will be available free of charge to parents once we are finished with processing them in early November.

Scholastic Book Order

The October/November Scholastic book order has begun!  As in the past, families can order and pay for books online so that they can be bundled and shipped directly to the school at the beginning of December.  This is a great way for parents to encourage reading and even get some winter gifts for their children.  Follow this link and order your books before November 17.
