Sanaa
International School, a non-profit institution that
opened in September 1971 offers a high quality education in the English
language for pre-school, elementary, and secondary students. The Campus is located on 34 acres on the outskirts of Sanaa constructed and
entered in September 1978. The facility includes ample playground area,
soccer field, softball field, basketball court and tennis courts. An
additional auditorium/multi-purpose area was completed in 1992. Bus
service is available.
The school's educational
philosophy, which includes a personalized approach to instruction,
leads to teaching for mastery. We believe in success for all
students. We seek to create a positive learning environment since we
believe a child learns more if he enjoys his learning experience.
THE PRIMARY PURPOSE of the school is to meet the needs of the children in Yemen who require this type of education with a view to continuing their education in their home countries with a minimum of adjustment problems. This program is also offered to Yemeni citizens who seek this education with a view to higher studies outside of Yemen. In addition to its scholastic goals, the school endeavors to provide its students with an understanding of Yemen. A limited number of scholarships are provided for Yemeni citizens on the Main Campus.
THE CURRICULUM includes English (reading, grammar, composition, keyboarding, and spelling), mathematics (including computer literacy), cultural studies (history, geography, economics, etc..), science, art, music, and physical education as part of the regular program. Intensive English classes are provided for those with a limited knowledge of the English language. Arabic is offered to native speakers. French and Arabic are offered as foreign languages. Various activities are offered two afternoons each week for elementary children. A four-year American secondary program is offered, which includes the basic subjects and a limited selection of electives and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Textbooks are loaned to students without charge.
