A chance to stop for a moment and recognize all of the
outstanding accomplishments around us!
Message from Director

Thank you all for supporting the Fall Festival on November 2nd. The children, parents and staff all seemed to have a wonderful time. The PSG did a great job decorating, planning games, and organizing the evening. Their booth was very popular with parents and visitors! Roots and Shoots had their first BBQ and learned a lot about how much to cook and when! The Booster Club sold home baked goods provided by the sports teams and school spirit T-shirts. All in all, “it was the best ever and getting better every year”, a sentiment expressed by one of our students. Great job, everyone!

We have lots of events coming up with volleyball and soccer games, school photographs, a Safe Haven drill, the 8 YO assembly, a pep assembly before the MS and Secondary volleyball and soccer teams leave for Baku, professional development on Child Protection classes, and the month ends with a MS/Sec drama performance! WOW.

Please be sure you are checking the Monday updates sent out by Anna with the special events for that week. Don’t forget that November 22 is early dismissal for all students (12:05) and November 23 and November 26 there is no school for students. We hope to see you at some of the upcoming events.

Message from Quality Schools International

Dear QSI Community,

A teacher from QSI International School of Astana demonstrated inappropriate and unprofessional behavior with students during a recent student sports trip to Almaty. An immediate Child Protection Investigation was launched. Although deemed not criminal by the Child Protection Team and local authorities, the transgression was outside the standards of QSI’s Professional Teacher Code of Conduct and consequentially deemed to be a breach of contract. The teacher’s contract was immediately terminated. It is important to note that no student was physically harmed in any way and that the school has made arrangements for counsellors to be available to students and families who may require...

Roots & Shoots

We had a good fundraiser at the Fall Festival selling burgers and hot dogs. This week we had another lunch match for charity. Teachers and Senior Boys donated their time and volleyball skills - the boys won, they are in Excellent shape for the Baku Tournament coming up. Mr. Martin helped Esther draw the winners of the ticket lottery and we had 3 grateful recipients of gift cards and t-shirts.

Coming up is the Tetri Drive November 19-21, if you have a jar of coins at home, you can send it to school and we donate it for local charity.

We are also organizing and attending presentations of organisations in need of charity.
Soon we will let you know which organisations the classes choose to focus on.

Cobwebs, Games & Treats
- A guided tour of
Fall Festival

“You may enter - if you daaare”, says Mr. Roberto and Ms. Vogler, at the entrance of Trick or Treat Lane. A group of pirates, ghosts, elves and spooky dolls ascend the stairs to the Lane of sweets. Parents from the PSG each host a door asking for the magic words. A pirate roams the halls singing “Trick or treat, smell my feet, if you dare, even smell my …” and the students start giggling. They move down the lane decorated with bats, cobwebs and chests full of gold. The lane is warm, kind and spooky...

Keeping Safe - Child Protection Program

QSI has adopted the “Keeping Safe” Child Protection Curriculum created by the Department for Education in South Australia. The program is for children 3 YO through Secondary IV. The program was developed by educators, administrators, and child protection experts. The curriculum has been updated over the past years to include contemporary issues such as bullying and cyber safety. In 2018 a global edition of the program was released. Topics can be sensitive, so a training program is required so that the skill, understanding, and delivery of the curriculum by each educator is effective.

The focus areas for each age group are: The Right to be Safe, Relationships, Recognizing and reporting abuse, Protective strategies.

All staff will have the “Keeping Safe” training on November 26. They will go over materials for their age group and be trained in delivery of the curriculum.  Teachers will begin the program in January with their homeroom classes, once a week. Middle School and Secondary students will meet with their homerooms during Wednesday homeroom period for their discussions.

There will be a parent meeting to share an overview of the program on Friday, January 11th at 9 am. If you are interested in hearing more about the curriculum, please plan to attend.
