Baku International School, a private non-profit institution that opened in September 1994, offers a high quality education in the English language for students pre-school (two years of age) through secondary (high school) graduation.
The school moved into its lovely new facility during the summer of 2003 that includes twelve classrooms, computer laboratory, library, 400 person auditorium, half court gymnasium, wrestling/gymnastics room, cafeteria, industrial kitchen, faculty room, nurses quarters, expansive playground with jungle gym, tree house complex, grassed playing field, sand box, and much more. THE PRIMARY PURPOSE of the school is to meet the needs of the children in Baku who require this type of education with a view to continuing their education in their home countries with a minimum of adjustment problems. This program is also offered to Azerbaijani citizens who seek this education with a view to higher studies outside of Azerbaijan. In addition to its scholastic goals, the school endeavors to provide its students with knowledge of Azerbaijan.
THE CURRICULUM includes English (reading, grammar, composition, keyboarding, and spelling), mathematics (including computer literacy), cultural studies (history, geography, economics, etc..), science, art, music, and physical education as part of the regular program. Intensive English classes are provided for those with a limited knowledge of the English language. French, Russian, and Azeri are offered as foreign languages. Various activities are offered Monday through Thursday after school for students of all ages. A four-year secondary level program is offered through secondary level graduation and Advanced Placement Courses are offered on a need-by-need basis in some subject areas.
