World Run Day Slovakia 2006
Imagine fall in Central Europe. No not the delightful
(often imaginary) runs and walks through a riot of red, amber
and golden leaves, but a real fall day-howling winds, pelting
near freezing rain and the ever looming threat that the weather
might just get so much worse. This is November in Bratislava,
Slovakia. This is the kind of weather our 65 World Run Day
runners and walkers clad in gloves and earmuffs showed up
fin, smiling, cheering, shivering and ready to get moving.
Quality School International Bratislava has
successfully hosted its second World Run Day. This year our
11-Year-Old class took on the mantle of publicizing World
Run Day, speaking about world hunger, requesting sponsors
and collecting the donations. Emerson Network Power sponsored
our shirts again this year. Due in main part to the efforts
of this class, we were able to double our number and our donations.
We gathered 22,000 SKK (about $786.00 USD) to aid in ending
Child Hunger. The money we raised will help feed 100 hungry
children in schools around the world for more than a year!World
Run Day has been a great way to showing our concern for others
as well!
The 11-Year-Old class would like to thank everyone
who participated. We would also like to send special thanks
to: Emerson Network Power for their generous donations and
support, QSIB for its support, our guests runners from the
US Embassy and state department who joined us this year, Mr.
Snyder and the middle/high school track team who turned out
in force, Mrs. Valeria Laitinen, our clean up runner, Mrs.
Jessica Paugh, our timer and Mr. Lake our lead walker. Be
sure to look for our article on the World Run Day Website
at www.runday.com.
Thank you again. We couldn't have done it without everyone's
help and support!
